The City’s official start to the Christmas season is December 4th when Odessa Mayor Larry Melton officially lights up the City’s Christmas tree at McKinney Park. Activities begin at 5:30 p.m. with music from the Odessa High School Choir as well as performances from area youth dance groups. Visitors can enjoy the entertainment while staying warm with Hot Chocolate from the famous Odessa Chuck Wagon Gang.
The start of the season wouldn’t be complete without a visit from Santa. The Jolly Old Elf is making a special appearance during the Tree Lighting Ceremony. Children are encouraged to bring “A Letter to Santa”. Santa’s elves will be available to collect the letters for Santa to read.
Admission is free, so there’s no excuse for not bringing the entire family to enjoy this festive occasion. People are encouraged to car pool whenever possible as parking is limited.
The tree lighting event is also broadcast live on CBS 7 between 6:30 and 7 p.m.
